This is it, the last hurrah of the 2016 Hot Rod Power Tour. Our hotel, the swanky Hyatt Regency in Wichita, Kansas, sits on the banks of the Arkansas River. According to Forrest, the Arkansas is a major tributary of the mighty Mississippi River. This is valuable information, since I didn’t know we were this close to the Mississippi. I also don’t know what a tributary is, but don’t mention this to Forrest.

Our Day Six drive started just like any other, with us prepping our rides for the drive ahead and wiping them down to ensure we Tour in style. And by “us” prepping our rides, I mean anyone but me. Hey, somebody needs to snap the pics.

The last day of the Power Tour is always bittersweet. On one hand there is an immense feeling of self-satisfaction in completing such an epic journey, but on the other, you’re forced to come to the realization that you won’t get to start each day with your fellow Power Tourists. Today, I  expressed my sorrow with a long nap on the road. Shane chose a different route going with his best Blue Steel.

Day Six’s Tour route took us 224.8 miles from Wichita to Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. I’m sure Forrest could tell us why Kansas and Missouri both have a Kansas City, but listening to the explanation would have cut into my nap time.

Next time, Shane, don’t ask Forrest to help fuel the rental ‘burban. On the bright side, I’m sure we could exploit this opportunity to submit multiple gas receipts to Amy from Accounting. Cha to the ching.

Not exactly the kind of topless entertainment I was hoping to see in Kansas.

Somewhere along the route we stopped at our friend’s house. We like this guy because he always allows us to do whatever we want on his private property. Let me reiterate. What you are about to see took place on a closed course.

It wouldn’t be Power Tour without a couple of road brodies. You know, burnouts, elevens, skid marks. Speaking of skid marks, I need to rinse out Shane’s shorts again.

Our friends Charley Lillard, Brian Thomson and Steen Gilbertson wanted to leave their mark on Kansas in the best way possible. Did I say, Steen? Steen had nothing to do with this mayhem. And if Mrs. Steen is reading this, we found another yellow Chevelle SS that looks just like Steen’s.

Since Steen was completely well behaved, we called upon the South African Power Tour contingent to demonstrate how it’s done.

Dear Amy from Accounting, these bits of tire represent a $98.32 portion of tires consumed in the name of content for the Mothers Power Tour Blog. You can give me the cash and I’ll be sure to pass it along. Trust me.

Plains, Kansas invited us to drive on America’s widest brick main street, provided we didn’t burn out on it. We resisted the urge. Just barely.

We remained reasonably well-behaved along the red bricks of Plain’s Main Street.

Hey, it’s Roadkill’s Mike Finnegan. We almost didn’t recognize him without a smoking pile of anything by his side.

A good part of today’s drive traced the route of the historic Santa Fe Trail. According to Forrest this was a 19th-century transportation route. According to me, it was a good time to take a nap.

Nice to see the Santa Fe Trail still in use today.

Today’s final stop was in the shadow of the Kansas Speedway. And shade was definitely something we could have used more of today.

But at least it was a wet heat. Forrest calls it sweatin’ to the oldies. I call it a recipe for disaster. Disaster being Shane’s shorts.

Pick ’em ups with a yin and yang balance in more ways than one.

Don’t think the owner removed the hood on this one. I’m pretty sure it fell off when backing into the space.

After that last one, needed to post this to cleanse my Ford truck palette.

This is my mantra.

Sad face emojis make me sad.

These are my new friends, Kevin and Alicia Davis. They long hauled all the way from Sayer, Pennsylvania in their gorgeous ’59 Impala.

As if we didn’t put our rental ‘burban through enough torture during the last week, we capped off this year’s Power Tour by stuffing it full of weary Tourists. Clown car arrivals are more graceful.

Don’t ever let it be said that we don’t come with a lot of baggage.
